Message: T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Michigan 20 Year Celebration Lisa Brewer-Walraven First Director of T.E.A.C.H. in Michigan Current role Director, Child Development and Care, Office of Great Start, Michigan Department of Education. I was the director when the program was initiated in MI, starting in 2001. I was with the program through November 2005. What was your greatest achievement while working at T.E.A.C.H.? Starting up the program in MI (from hiring staff/building a team, to setting up scholarship models, to working with higher edu, informational sessions, etc. ). It was a big lift at the time. How has Early Childhood Education changed since you were the director of T.E.A.C.H.? The emphasis on early childhood has been elevated in new ways, including pay disparities for those working in the field. Tell us about what T.E.A.C.H. looked like when you were the director? It was brand new … lots of excitement, but also lots to learn and establish. It was a great honor to be able to help establish the program in MI and be able to make the opportunity available to those in the field.
