#DidYouKnow? Chalk Hill was an early leader in planting its hillside vineyards vertically, following the rise of the terrain rather than crossing it. This concept of vertical viticulture requires the use of what winemakers call a "cover crop," which holds back any possible erosion while benefiting soil conservation efforts. |

Back in 2003 when we made our first 98 cases of Obsidian Estate Cabernet, we had no idea where this journey would lead us.
And yet here we are—nearly two decades later—thanks to your support.
As we look to 2022, we want to say thank you. Without you, this would be no journey at all. You have relaxed with us, explored with us, and laughed with us. You have supported us as we tried new things. You have understood what we do and why we do it, even as we cut against the established grain. You understand our spirit, as it is yours too.
Mostly, you have inspired us. We make wine in order to bring your families and your communities closer together. And to bring us all that much closer to nature.
Together, we are making steady progress on our mission to change the climate of wine.
2021 was a pivotal year for us in this regard. On the vernal equinox we launched Obsidian Wine Co. Adventures. Our Rabbit Hole wines debuted, quickly received critical praise, and sold out in short order (don’t worry, we’re releasing more wines this spring).
We could not be more excited about 2022 and the promise that it holds. We’ll be continuing our Born on a Volcano tour as we visit places around the country to talk about growing high elevation volcanic wines. We hope to see you on the road, and if you spot the Obsidivan please give us a honk and a wave.
And again, thank you for joining us on this adventure. We are all just getting started, together.

“My favorite wine here is the 2019 Rockpile Zinfandel. I love the bright red fruit on the front of the palate and the mineral notes on the finish. Every wine we produce from Rockpile AVA is a winner for me but Wilson’s Rockpile Zinfandel in particular, is my absolute favorite.” 🥂🍷🍇

The release of the 2019 Á Deux Têtes begins Jan. 21, 2022, Philippe Cambie's 6oth Birthday.
When we chose this date, he was going to be here. I am not sure how we would have celebrated but I know he loved his birthday. He loved to gather his friends around a table filled with laughter, smiles, great food and the best wines.
