Declining Software Revenue!

A tale of reinventing an international software company for growth and profitability

Once upon a time…

there was a large, international financial services and banking company. They had written and sold several software applications that many companies were using to move information around the world.

Every day…

companies used their software because it was reliable, secure, and fast.  But the software was becoming antiquated.  The interface was old and difficult to use.  As the number of installations grew, the management of many remote installations was becoming unwieldy and costly.

One day…

the company realized they were losing customers to competitors.  Newer software applications with cleaner user interfaces and more accessible network management were becoming available.  Their customers were not renewing their licenses.

Because of that…

we suggested a new approach.  We could create a new web SaaS management user interface to control a network of installed applications.  The new software could manage thousands of in-house and cloud systems.  With a web browser, a lightly trained IT person could manage applications, systems, upgrades, set up and monitor transfers, and manage security all from anywhere in the world.

And because of that…

using the latest web technology, we built a highly scalable SaaS application that could manage and control all of a customer’s existing software instances.  The new web software worked by deploying a small applet on every computer in the network.  The applet worked as a communicator between the remote installation and the SaaS application and database. The new software would vastly reduce the amount of effort and time spent by IT.  It would also reduce the amount of training necessary to manage the network of transfers.

Until finally…

…the customers and prospects loved the new management capabilities and user experience.  The sales team now had something they could demonstrate that no longer showed the company as stodgy and antiquated.  The new interface and management capabilities offered a vast improvement and gave the company something they could use to grow and expand into new markets.
